October is one of our most favorite months here at Oysters & Chocolate. It's the perfect month to get both a little romantic and a lotta freaky.
In Boulder, Colorado, where the zine is based, October truly marks the changing of the seasons. The air turns crisp, the colors transform from greens and blues to yellows and reds, and the sky takes on that intoxicating fall light. There's nothing quite as romantic as walking down the brick-laid street with that certain someone as the late October sun slowly dips behind the mountains. The sky turns an amazing color of purple in the fall, offset by the brilliant yellows and oranges in the trees. And when the cool wind blows, the leaves fall in soft, glittering showers. It makes for quite a magical moment, if you just so happen to be caught there.
And then it's off to enjoy a cozy fire, share a blanket and a glass of red wine, and kiss and coo as you pull the leaves out of each other's hair.
October is just a month of romantic moments waiting to happen. And it's as if all of that romance and sexual energy is building up and setting the stage for that holiday of holidays - Halloween!
At no other time of the year do adults get to act like such children. We don our masks and costumes, and all inhibitions fly out of the window on All Hollow's Eve. It becomes the one night when we can become someone else, anyone else (or anything else) in the world. Chaste women dress up as playboy bunnies, tough men put on lipstick and high heels, bad girls become catholic school girls, and the devil comes out just a little bit in us all. We drink, we flirt, we play games and watch scary movies. We tease and lovingly torture one another, and dip into that dark part of ourselves. There's nothing as wild as a great Halloween party. It's a transformative and incredibly sexy holiday.
Of course, this month's issue of Oysters & Chocolate is filled with plenty of naughty tricks and sensual treats for you. And we have a special story, Betty and the Cambion by Ralph Greco, which will both scare and tantalize you.
