Erotic Book Review

The Pet Shop by KD Grace

Review by Kay Jaybee

After the rave reviews, regular erotic explosions, and worldwide battery shortage that followed the publication of KD Grace’s amazing first novel, The Initiation of Miss Holly, there may well have been a few out there who wondered how on earth Ms Grace could follow such a sizzling hit.

The answer has arrived in the shape of The Pet Shop, which I’m delighted to report is every bit as hot its predecessor.

Stella James loves her job to the point where she has become a workaholic. An accidental admission to her boss however, confessing she has no real life outside work, let alone a social or sex life, leads to her being given a gift for her outstanding service. A gift that will change her life.

Forget hampers of chocolates, spa tokens or a day trip to France, this gift is something special. This gift is a pet; a pet which will belong to her for an entire weekend, to look after, tend, and exercise. A male pet. A naked human male pet called Tino who wants sex, food, company, and absolutely no conversation whatsoever. After all, pets don’t talk.

Once she has gotten over her initial shock and shyness at receiving such an upfront and risqué present, Stella begins to relax and enjoy the services that The Pet Shop and its pets can offer.
Vincent Evanston is a powerful philanthropist, who Stella encounters by chance in a forest while on a business trip. Handsome, rich and self assured, Vincent happens to bear a striking resemblance to Tino, leading Stella to believe that Vincent and Tino are one and the same. Vincent however, is admitting nothing.

Increasingly preoccupied with proving that her theory is correct, Stella becomes obsessed with both Vincent and The Pet Shop. As her investigations continue, Stella is determined to stop at nothing until she gets the answer to the question that dominates her life – is Tino really Vincent?

A satisfying mix of romance, kink, and inventive S&M, The Pet Shop reels the reader in, neatly side stepping clichés, and forcing you to read just one more chapter before you put it down.

I particularly like the excellent use of temptingly fun bodily descriptions that are a blessed relief from the norm. My personal favorite has to be after Stella is fitted with a leather pony harness (I’m not going to say why- it would spoil things for you), “...A band of leather attached to the collar connected to another strip, were twisted and crisscrossed around Stella’s breasts until they were trussed up and presented, nipples bulging like cherries atop plump Christmas puddings...”

As with anything penned by the amazing KD Grace, The Pet Shop is an essential addition to any collection in the eroticists’ library. Buy it, read it, enjoy it, and then do it all again.

Published by Xcite as an e-book, The Pet Shop will also be released as a paperback in October 2011. Available from Xcite, Amazon UK, Amazon US, and all leading book and Kindle retailers.
